6 LPA in hand salary: what ₹6 LPA actually pays per month

FY 2025-26, new tax regime · Indicative — your exact structure varies by employer

Monthly in-hand, approximately ₹42,600–₹44,800 on a fully fixed ₹6 LPA package · about 88% of CTC reaches your account

Digital and specialist track territory — roughly double the entry band.

Where the money goes

The single most common surprise in a first offer is that ₹6 LPA divided by twelve is ₹50,000, but the amount that lands in your bank account is closer to ₹44,000. The difference is not a deduction anyone hid from you — it is the gap between what the company spends and what it pays you, plus statutory deductions. Here is the full path, at a 40% basic:

ComponentPer yearPer month
Annual CTC₹6,00,000₹50,000
− Employer PF (12% of basic, inside CTC)−₹28,800−₹2,400
− Gratuity provision (4.81% of basic)−₹11,544−₹962
= Gross salary₹5,59,656₹46,638
− Employee PF (12% of basic)−₹28,800−₹2,400
− Professional tax−₹2,400−₹200
− Income tax (new regime) — nil at this band ₹0 ₹0
= In hand₹5,28,456₹44,038

Two of these are worth understanding rather than resenting. Employer PF is your money — it goes into your provident fund account every month and you keep it. Gratuity is a provision the company sets aside against a payment due after five years of service. Both are real value; neither is monthly cash.

Why the figure is a range, not one number

Your basic salary is usually 35–50% of the package, it is set by the employer, and you almost never get to choose it. It moves your in-hand meaningfully, because provident fund is calculated on basic rather than on the whole salary — so a higher basic means a lower monthly amount and a larger PF balance.

If your basic isMonthly in-handMonthly PF (yours + employer's)
35% of CTC ₹44,758 ₹4,200
40% of CTC ₹44,038 ₹4,800
45% of CTC ₹43,318 ₹5,400
50% of CTC ₹42,598 ₹6,000

A lower basic is not automatically the better offer. The right-hand column is money you keep — it simply arrives later. Run your own basic percentage in the calculator if your offer letter states it.

What 6 LPA supports month to month

Around ₹44,000 a month supports independent living with real savings in any Indian city. This is the band at which the salary stops being the constraint on ordinary decisions.

₹6 LPA is where the digital, specialist and elevated tracks at large services companies land, and it is very close to double the standard entry band at the same firms. That doubling is the single most useful fact in this entire cluster: the difference between ₹3.4 LPA and ₹6 LPA is frequently not a different company or a different degree, but a different section of the same exam.

Offers at this band usually come with a genuinely harder interview — deeper CS fundamentals, real coding under observation, and questions about projects that expect you to have built something rather than followed a tutorial. That is the actual price of the extra ₹20,000 a month.

Frequently asked questions

How much is 6 LPA per month in hand?

Roughly ₹42,600–₹44,800 a month, depending on how your basic salary is structured and assuming no variable component. The spread exists because a higher basic means more provident fund is deducted — the same 6 LPA package pays less in hand at a 50% basic than at a 35% basic. Use the calculator with your own offer's basic percentage for a closer figure.

Why is 6 LPA in hand not simply ₹50,000 a month?

Because CTC is what the company spends, not what it pays you. Employer provident fund (₹2,400 a month at a 40% basic) and the gratuity provision (₹962 a month) sit inside CTC but never reach your account. Your own PF contribution and professional tax then come out of the remainder. On a 6 LPA package that gap is about ₹5,962 a month.

Does a 6 LPA package pay income tax?

No. Under the new tax regime for FY 2025-26, the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the Section 87A rebate on taxable income up to ₹12 lakh mean a 6 LPA package attracts no income tax. Your deductions are provident fund and professional tax only. This is indicative — confirm the current year's rules.

Is variable pay included in these figures?

No, and that is deliberate. Variable pay is paid quarterly or annually against performance ratings, and companies commonly pay only part of it. Every figure on this page assumes a fully fixed package. If your offer carries variable pay, subtract it from the CTC first and read the band below your headline number — the calculator has a field for exactly this.

Every figure here is computed with the same assumptions as our in-hand salary calculator: employer PF at 12% of basic, gratuity at 4.81% of basic, professional tax of ₹200 a month, and new-regime slabs for FY 2025-26 with the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the Section 87A rebate. Companies structure CTC differently and tax rules change — treat this as a close estimate, not a payslip, and confirm against your own offer letter.
